Celebrate New Year’s Eve and Experience the Orange Bowl at Yacht Haven

On Friday, December 31 – New Year’s Eve 2021 – the Universities of Michigan and Georgia will meet at the Capital One Orange Bowl at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens – only 13 miles from Yacht Haven!

(A bit of background: the Orange Bowl, along with the Sugar Bowl and Sun Bowl, were all started in 1935, making them the second oldest bowl games behind the Rose Bowl. Today, there are 42 bowl games, but we think the most exciting one will be right here in Florida when the #2 ranked Wolverines take on the #3 ranked Bulldogs.  The teams have only faced off twice before, most recently in 1965, but this year they’ll be playing for a berth in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game. Both teams have 12-1 records, but Georgia is the odds-on favorite, according to the Bleacher Report.)

For those lucky RVers who have tickets to the game, it will be an easy drive to the tailgating lots – after a lovely day enjoying the pool and other new amenities at Yacht Haven. For those who prefer to watch the game on the big screen, Yacht Haven will have a huge one and a tailgating party of our own!  All of our guests are invited to gather at the poolside tiki hut and entertainment area to watch the game and other televised New Year’s Eve events under the stars.  (Cheering on their team in the warm evening air at the end of December has to be particularly appealing to Michigan fans!)

There will be a lot more going on in South  Florida to celebrate the Orange Bowl, like the “Beach Bash” at nearby Lummus park on December 30th featuring Harry Styles and Khalid.

For the adventurous, there will be guided kayak tours from 7pm-9pm on New Year’s Eve and, of course, paddleboard, kayak and motor boat rentals right at Yacht Haven!

In Ft. Lauderdale, Hollywood and Pompano Beach, New Year’s Eve will be celebrated in style at a number of oceanfront hotels and night spots.  At midnight, the town lowers its huge illuminated anchor, which symbolizes News Years greetings from “the yachting capital of America.” Plus, an open-air party with live music, dancing, food and cocktails will be held at The Wharf.

Don’t forget brunch on New Year’s Day – there are lots of fantastic restaurants along Las Olas Boulevard  and around town to enjoy.  Or if you want to enjoy a traditional Southern New Year’s Day meal in the comfort of your RV, here are some favorite recipes.
