RV Holidays in South Florida

For RVers seeking a fun and festive place to celebrate the holidays, Yacht Haven is ideal for its luxury RV amenities and friendly fellow travelers, and it is ideally located for enjoying all that Fort Lauderdale and South Florida have to offer. Below are tips for planning a holiday visit that you’ll remember for many Christmases to come!

First of all, besides being a luxury RV park, Yacht Haven is also a marina for large, luxury yachts. And Christmas is the most exciting time of the year for yacht-watching as the city celebrates  37th Annual Winterfest on December 11th. More than a million people gather each year to see this nighttime parade of festively lit boats on a 14-mile route on the New River and Intercoastal waterways.  It is believed that Winterfest is the 7th largest spectator event in the U.S.  – and Yacht Haven RVers can view some of the decorated yachts up close from the boardwalk that surrounds the campground.

But the holiday season in Ft. Lauderdale actually kicks off on November 30th, between 5pm-10pm, with the 59th Annual Christmas on Las Olas – when the shopping and dining mecca is transformed into an urban Winter Wonderland and Christmas Market. There, you’ll find musical performances, food and beverage stands, a sledding hill covered in manmade snow and more.

For an entire week of celebrations, The Bonnet House hosts an annual sparkling Holiday Magic festival of trees and décor starting from the 3-9th. This year’s seasonal events include a Holiday Magic Soirée, Holiday Magic Whimsical Wonderland, Holiday Magic Evening Experiences, and Holiday Arrangement Classes.

Finally, if you’re looking for something more traditional, you can see The Nutcracker at The Parker performing arts center on Dec. 15th.

In addition to the stores on Las Olas Boulevard, you’ll find plenty of shopping (and probably a Santa Claus in residence) at these nearby malls: the Galleria, Coral Ridge, Westfield Broward or the Gallery at Beach Place.  If you’re looking for something to send the poor friends and relatives you left behind in the cold, there are always Honeybell oranges and other citrusy gifts from www.pickFLA.com.

But the fun and festivities of the holidays don’t just happen NEAR Yacht Haven, they happen right here! Join us in getting into the holiday spirit by decorating your RV with garland, battery operated lights, wreaths and more with creative and practical ideas from Todd and Julie at Trekkn. (Note: The great thing about having a real Christmas tree erected outside your RV is you won’t have any needles to clean up inside!)

Speaking of inside decorations, don’t forget about Florida oranges, especially if you love the scent of them studded with cloves.

Arguably, the true joy of the holidays is celebrating them with family and friends, old and new. You’ll find plenty of the latter at Yacht Haven who you might recruit for these fun holiday activities:

A Christmas cookie exchange – see this great video on how to make perfect cookies in an RV. Or try no-bake cookie recipes.

Christmas caroling – roam throughout the campground sending good cheer your fellow RVers.

Christmas movies – fire up your outdoor TV and gather around to enjoy them on a warm night, under the stars and among the swaying palms.

Christmas Dinner – consider pooling your gastronomic resources for a potluck meal in our new poolside tiki hut where the long bar can serve as a (very long) buffet table. For tips and recipes for preparing Christmas dinner in an RV, check out this article. And don’t miss this great list of no-bake desserts to top off your meal.

Don’t forget the beverages! Here’s a recipe for a delicious tropical Yuletide punch and here are ten new twists on the old standby, eggnog.

So, join us at Yacht Haven this December and be sure to send photos and holiday greetings to far off family and friends from your poolside lounge chair!
